2. Overview

MindClip is a clipboard manager for macOS built with privacy as a core principle. Your clipboard data stays on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your clipboard contents on any server.

This privacy policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we process it, and what rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable data protection laws.

3. What Data We Collect and Why

We collect minimal data necessary to sell, deliver, and support MindClip. Below is a breakdown of each category, its purpose, and our legal basis for processing it.

Email address

Deliver your license key, provide customer support, and send critical product updates (e.g. security patches).

License key

Validate that your copy of MindClip is properly licensed.

Machine identifier

A one-way hardware hash of your Mac, used to bind your license to your device. This hash cannot be reversed to identify you personally.

Legal basis: Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — preventing license abuse while minimizing data collection.

Payment information

Process your purchase. All payment data is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

4. What We Do Not Collect

  • Your clipboard contents — everything stays on your Mac.
  • Usage analytics or telemetry.
  • Browsing history or app usage patterns.
  • Contacts, files, or any other personal data from your device.

5. Local Data Storage

MindClip stores all clipboard history locally on your Mac. This data never leaves your device. You can clear your clipboard history at any time from within the app.

6. On-Device Features & Accessibility

MindClip uses the macOS Accessibility permission to power features that run entirely on your Mac. Nothing read through Accessibility is ever transmitted off your device — it is covered by the same “stays on your Mac” guarantee as your clipboard history.

Pasting back into your app

When you choose an item, MindClip pastes it into the app you were using (the ⌘V-hold gesture). This uses Accessibility to send the paste keystroke. No screen content is read or stored.

Context capture(optional, off by default)

If you turn on “Show context around each copy” in Settings → Privacy, MindClip reads a short snippet of text around your selection — up to 60 characters before and 30 after — together with the source app's name and the title of its front window. This is what lets you tell similar-looking items apart in your history.

It is stored only in your local history and is never transmitted. You can turn it off at any time; doing so stops all such reading immediately.

Always excluded

Password managers and secure (password) text fields are skipped before MindClip reads anything — for both clipboard capture and context capture. You can also exclude any other app yourself in Settings → Privacy.

Enabling accessibility in other apps

Some apps built on web technology (such as certain Electron-based apps and Chromium browsers) don't expose their text to macOS Accessibility by default. So that context capture can work there, MindClip switches on each app's own built-in accessibility support — the same mechanism VoiceOver and other assistive tools use.

This setting lives inside that app and remains until the app is quit, and may slightly increase its memory use. MindClip transmits nothing in the process; it only enables the app's existing accessibility capability so the text can be read locally.

You stay in control: pause capture at any time, set your history to auto-delete, switch to memory-only mode, or clear everything instantly — all from within the app.

7. Third-Party Services (Sub-processors)

We use the following third-party services to operate MindClip. Each acts as a data processor on our behalf, and we have ensured appropriate safeguards are in place for any international data transfers.

Stripe(Stripe, Inc., USA)

Payment processing. Data shared: payment and transaction data.

Data location: USA — certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Stripe's privacy policy applies to all payment transactions.

Resend(Plus Five Five, Inc., USA)

Transactional email (license key delivery). Data shared: email address only.

Data location: USA — certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; SOC 2 compliant.

Supabase(Supabase, Inc.)

License validation and activation data storage. Data shared: email, license key, machine identifier.

Data location: EU (Frankfurt) — hosted on AWS eu-central-1. No clipboard data is stored here.

Sparkle(open-source framework)

Checking for app updates. A network request to our update server. No personal data is transmitted.

Note on international transfers: Where personal data is transferred to the United States, we rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework adequacy decision and/or Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as approved by the European Commission, to ensure your data is protected to a standard equivalent to GDPR.

8. Data Retention

  • Email address and license data are retained for as long as your license is active and for up to 12 months after expiration, in case of reactivation or support inquiries.
  • Payment records are retained by Stripe in accordance with applicable financial and tax regulations.
  • Clipboard data on your device is under your full control and can be deleted at any time from within the app.

If you request deletion of your data, we will remove your email and license records within 30 days.

9. Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure — Request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Restriction — Request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Data portability — Request your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Objection — Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Withdraw consent — Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

10. Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you believe that our processing of your personal data violates the GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. For Sweden, this is:

11. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls limiting who can access license data, and regular review of our security practices and those of our sub-processors.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at mindclip.pro/privacy with an updated revision date. If we make material changes to how we process your personal data, we will notify you by email before the changes take effect.
